The beneficial effects of aerobic exercise training on the health status of patients with chronic heart failure (n=2,331) was examined in a multicentre, randomized controlled trial with a mean follow-up of 2.5 years. The Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) overall summary score improved by 5.21 points in the exercise training group vs. 3.28 points in the usual care group (p<0.001). After 3 months, there was no further significant change in the KCCQ score for both groups, resulting in a greater improvement in the KCCQ score for the exercise group at the end of the follow-up (p<0.001). Although modest, study results demonstrated that exercise training improved patient-reported health status compared with usual care.
