Comparison of age, body mass index, and frequency of systemic hypertension and diabetes mellitus in patients having coronary angioplasty in 1996 versus in 2006.
This is a short descriptive paper on the prevalence of type 2 diabetes, systemic hypertension, and overweight/obesity among patients who underwent coronary angioplasty at the Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College. The prevalence of overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension increased over 10 years. These results stress the importance of preventing abdominal obesity and related complications such as diabetes, systemic hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
