Effects of walnut consumption on blood lipids and other cardiovascular risk factors: a meta-analysis and systematic review.

Description

This meta-analysis quantified the effects of walnut consumption on blood lipids. When compared to control diets, diets supplemented with walnuts resulted in a significantly greater decrease in cholesterol and LDL cholesterol concentrations whereas there were no differences in HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels between control and walnut diets. Longer trials will be needed to evaluate the impact of walnut consumption on cardiovascular risk.
