Description

A prospective cohort study involving 3,497 diabetic men without cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline investigated the relationship between coffee consumption and CVD risk and mortality. After adjusting for several confounding factors, the relative risk of CVD or all-cause mortality for the consumption of ≤4 cups/day was not significantly different from non-coffee drinkers. Similar results were obtained when stratified on the basis of smoking or diabetes duration. The relative risk of the highest compared to the lowest quintile of caffeine intake was not significant. Therefore, there was no association between caffeine consumption and CVD risk in patients with type 2 diabetes.
