Description

Some studies have suggested or demonstrated a relationship between calcium intake and body weight or fat mass. This study further explored this association and studied the relationships of calcium intake and dairy consumption with 6-year changes in body weight and waist circumference in a sample of 2,267 middle-aged French adults. Among overweight men, there was an inverse relationship between 6-year changes in body weight and waist circumference with the consumption of dairy products (especially milk and yogurt consumption). Positive relationships between milk consumption and waist circumference changes were found in overweight women and between yogurt consumption and body weight changes in normal-weight women. In conclusion, the associations between dairy products and anthropometric changes differed according to sex and overweight status at baseline.
