A beautifully written, inspiring, and pragmatic editorial on the clinical and public health consequences of our sedentary lifestyle and overconsumption of calories leading to positive energy balance, obesity, and related clinical consequences. Based on successful historical changes in undesirable collective behaviours in the US, Levine proposes that we could indeed fight the obesity epidemic successfully if some conditions were met: a consensus and a single collective voice, the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, the identification of successful models both at the individual and population levels, and implementation of the proposed solutions. Levine suggests that there is no reason why we could not collectively combat the obesity epidemic if we act as a united community of scientists with all relevant stakeholders. However, the fight can only be won through consensus and strong leadership.
