Description

This cross-sectional study described intentional weight loss strategies in a diverse sample of overweight individuals [3,063 women and 2,082 men 45 to 74 years of age with body mass index (BMI)≥25 kg/m2] with type 2 diabetes and identified strategies associated with lower BMI in the general sample. Results of this study showed that less than half of participants weighed themselves weekly or more often. Although a regular eating pattern was reported (five meals/snacks consumed per day), breakfast was generally skipped one day/week and two meals per week were fast food. As expected, this study also showed that weekly self-weighing, regular breakfast consumption, and eating less fast food were related to lower BMI. The authors concluded that future research should test interventions that encourage the persistent use of these specific strategies to help with weight control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
