AHA Scientific Sessions 2018

The mission of the American Heart Association and its 16 scientific councils is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This is accomplished by attracting, developing and retaining science volunteers as a source of information to develop current and emerging cardiovascular and stroke science content that is credible, accurate and timely. Professional members participate in committees that determine how our research funding is allocated and which programs and abstracts will be presented at Scientific Sessions and other AHA scientific conferences. They also participate in writing groups that produce scientific statements and guidelines. Our vision is to be widely recognized by the public and healthcare professionals as the premier knowledge base for scientific information on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. In pursuit of this mission, the scientific councils have established programs to serve the science community, highlight research and reward significant accomplishments in the field of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. These programs include the Young Investigator Competitions, Distinguished Achievement Awards and Named Lectures.
