Editorial: The 2nd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity in Buenos Aires: The ICCR enters a new era!

The 2nd ICAO in Buenos Aires: a great success!

With more than 500 participants from 60 countries, the International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk (ICCR) thanks all attendees and speakers who made this 2nd meeting a resounding success. The feedback received from the participants as well as from the invited speakers was excellent. At the ICCR, we felt that there was a need for a multidisciplinary meeting focusing on all aspects relevant to abdominal obesity and its related co-morbidities. The success of this 2nd edition confirms that this new meeting is here to stay! It fills a need!

5 km Fun Run

As the ICCR promotes an active lifestyle, the 5 km fun run of the ICAO meeting is a flagship event with tremendous symbolism: we are committed to promoting physical activity and how it is fun to be active! We were therefore delighted that our 5 km fun run event held in the superb Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve gathered more than 100 participants. The weather was perfect, the morning sunrise glorious, the landscape beautiful and we were really impressed by how much our participants were cheerful so early in the morning! A great event which will become a classic feature of the annual ICAO meeting!

A new iPad application launched by the ICCR

In Buenos Aires, the ICCR also launched its first iPad application which allows physicians and health professionals to perform a comprehensive cardiometabolic risk assessment with the use of various tools.

Social Networking… It is the way to communicate in the 21st century!

As part of its communication strategy to extensively disseminate knowledge on abdominal obesity and its associated cardiometabolic complications, the ICCR has expanded its digital ecosystem to several social networks. Join our online community today on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube and SlideShare! These new features aim at reaching more individuals and at increasing the impact of our educational activities in our fight against abdominal obesity and its related cardiometabolic risk.

We hope that with these new features, you will join us in our fight against abdominal obesity and related cardiometabolic risk and become ambassadors of the ICCR in our crusade against the worldwide toxic sedentary lifestyle!

3rd ICAO: See you in Québec City on July 9-12, 2012!

From the feedback received at the first two editions, we now know that the ICAO meeting is here to stay. As abdominal obesity strikes the planet, the meeting will tour the world. We take this opportunity to invite organizations interested in holding the meeting to contact us and to bid for holding the meeting in future years.

For 2012, we are delighted to announce that the 3rd edition of the ICAO meeting will be held in the city where the ICCR is based: Québec City. The meeting will be held at the Québec City International Convention Centre from July 9-12, 2012. Participants will enjoy what should be the biggest ICAO meeting ever and the comfortable and warm summer weather that we get in July. The Convention Centre is located right in the heart of the city just besides the parliament building and the gates of the Old City. Our famous summer festival will also begin during that week with numerous concerts from well-known artists and famous internationally known rock bands. This will be the perfect time to mix science and a holiday with the family! We really hope to see you in Québec City next year!
