The Chair will be hosting a symposium on Sunday, April 27, during the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) meeting in Istanbul. The symposium, chaired by Drs. Tokgözoglu and Van Gaal, will provide an opportunity to hear Drs. Tokgözoglu, Brewer, Taskinen, Després, and Van Gaal discuss issues relevant to the dyslipidemic state of abdominal obesity and its role in the assessment and management of global cardiometabolic risk. While Dr. Bryan Brewer will focus on HDL metabolism, Professor Marja-Riitta Taskinen will review the atherogenic dyslipidemic state of abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In addition, Professor Jean-Pierre Després will present the results of a lifestyle modification program aimed at the management of viscerally obese, dyslipidemic men. Professor Luc Van Gaal will close the meeting with his clinical perspectives.
