Editorial: Welcome to the 5th edition of the ICCR Congress now named ICCR Congress on Chronic Societal Cardiometabolic Diseases

Initially named the International Congress on Abdominal Obesity, the ICCR conference has rapidly become the international platform to discuss novel approaches and share scientific and clinical data to benefit healthcare professionals, clinicians and scientists interested by the etiology and the management/prevention of abdominal obesity. As abdominal obesity is a central condition associated with the development of several chronic diseases, there was a need to change the name of the conference to reflect the broader scope of topics addressed at the meeting. Thus, the new name of the meeting, ICCR Congress on Chronic Societal Cardiometabolic Diseases, reflects the Chair’s evolving mission to fight a lifestyle epidemic of sedentary behaviours and low nutritional quality habits leading to chronic societal diseases.

The 5th Edition of this congress, which will be held in Québec City, Canada will build upon the success of the four previous meetings held in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Québec City and Seoul. With more than 60 countries involved, the conference has an international flavour and truly fills a need in this area. The 5th ICCR Congress 2015 draws a wide range of participants going from physicians, scientists and allied health professionals to policy-makers in the area of chronic societal cardiometabolic diseases. Past editions of the congress have attracted an average of 800 international delegates and generated very positive reviews and comments. The 2015 Program Committee has worked very hard to ensure that the 5th edition meets the expectations of the participants. New topics are introduced in the program with an impressive list of confirmed speakers. Our faculty members received the mandate to make sure that they address their topic with a knowledge translation perspective in mind. Thus, attendees should leave the meeting with a toolbox of notions with practical implications for the prevention and management of chronic cardiometabolic diseases which currently represent a huge clinical, public health and socio-economic burden, with no part of the world being spared from what is the result of a growing lifestyle epidemic.

On top of the quality of the meeting, we hope that you will enjoy beautiful Québec City. As the 5th ICCR conference will be held at the time of our famous summer festival, the city will be vibrant with numerous spectacular open air concerts and activities and the weather should be warm and comfortable.

We therefore invite you to submit your abstract and participate to the 5th edition of the ICCR Congress.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Québec City next July!
